Sailing

I have been sailing for a while now, with most of my formative sailing time on a Sunfish at Boy Scout camp up in Wisconsin.  My uncle inherited my grandpa's 30 ft sailboat and I sailed more with him.

After some pleading and begging, Anna agreed that she would let us buy a boat.  And I knew I needed something pretty, reasonably fast, rugged, and preferably full keeled.  I read more about the Alberg 30 and became obsessed.  I spent hours shopping around online, and on a walk near our family summer home in South Haven, Michigan I found an Alberg that needed a lot of work, but too much work for me to take on.  The neighboring boat yard had another Alberg 30, a black boat named Rascal, like my childhood Lab.  I asked the yard owners if the boat was somebody's, and they gave me the contact of the previous owner who had also just posted the boat for sail the same week. After months of chatting and negotiation, we settled on a price, and the boat was ours.

Alberg 30 #145, Rascal is now moored in Hammond, Indiana, and Anna and I sail her around Chicago area, and occasionally race for a good time.
